Danny Ransom

(DSportExPsy Cand, MBPsS, MSc, BSc (Hons))

Danny Ransom is a performance psychologist specialising in psychology and talent development within elite academy systems. His career has been built inside professional football environments, where he supports young players to develop the mental skills, habits, and lifestyle behaviours required to progress through the pathway and perform consistently under pressure.

He currently works at Manchester United as Head of Psychology and Performance Lifestyle (Academy) (since July 2025). Before stepping into this leadership role, he served as Lead Academy Psychologist (October 2020–July 2025) and previously as an Academy Psychologist (July 2016–October 2020), giving him close to a decade of continuous experience shaping psychological support across multiple age groups and transition points.

Alongside football, Danny has delivered applied performance psychology in elite rugby as a Performance Psychology Consultant at Sale Sharks (July 2019–June 2024), supporting performers and staff in a high-contact, high-pressure environment.

His academic pathway is anchored at Liverpool John Moores University, where he completed a Professional Doctorate in Sport and Exercise Psychology (DSportExPsy) (2017–August 2023) and an MSc in Sport Psychology (Distinction)(2015–2016). He also spent seven years as a Sessional Lecturer in Sport Psychology at the same institution (July 2016–September 2023), and has delivered guest lectures through The Football Exchange on applied sport psychology in professional football.

Earlier applied roles include sports psychology support with West Bromwich Albion (Oct 2015–Apr 2016) and academy support at Hull City (Jul 2013–Aug 2015), helping establish his foundation in youth development.

Fluent in English, Danny’s work focuses on building confidence, focus, emotional regulation, resilient routines, and performance lifestyle behaviours—ensuring academy players are not only talented, but prepared to meet the demands of elite football over the long term.
