Matthew Newton is a sports scientist and performance practitioner whose career bridges elite football delivery, return-to-play planning, and performance technology strategy. He currently works with Kitman Labs, where he progressed from Applied Performance Specialist (Customer Success) to Performance Strategist (Account Management) in January 2024—supporting elite football organisations to embed data-driven workflows and maximise the impact of their athlete performance and health systems.
Alongside this, Matthew is a Player Care Consultant with The Player Care Group (since April 2024), contributing practical insight from first-team and academy settings to support wellbeing, mentoring, and player support structures. He is also a longstanding Lecturer with ISSPF (since March 2020), delivering applied education for coaches and practitioners—particularly in the area of return to play and preparing injured players for the positional demands of football.
Before moving into performance tech, Matthew held senior applied roles including Lead Academy Sports Scientist at Cardiff City, and first-team sports science positions with Hebei China Fortune—working within Chris Coleman’s staff and alongside high-profile players such as Javier Mascherano and Ezequiel Lavezzi—plus a European pathway that included Lechia Gdańsk, FC Stade Nyonnais and Servette FC.
Academically, he holds a BA from Durham University and an MRes in Sport & Exercise Science from University of the West of Scotland, and speaks English, French, and Spanish—supporting his work across international football environments.
