Tiago Monteiro

Tiago Monteiro is a data scientist working within FC Porto’s Performance Department, where he supports performance and match analysis across the First Team and Academy by turning complex data into clear, decision-ready insights. In his current role as First Team Data Scientist (August 2025–present), he bridges technical delivery with practitioner needs—building visual analytics, data engineering pipelines, and modelling workflows that help staff act quickly and confidently in training and competition contexts.

His academic background includes a Master’s in Data Analytics from FEP – University of Porto (September 2022–October 2024), focused on modelling, data analysis, and decision-support systems, as well as a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave (2018–2021). This combination supports both the technical execution of analytics and the ability to frame outputs in a way that aligns with organisational priorities.

Before moving into elite football full-time, Monteiro built strong experience in applied technology strategy and data platforms. At PwC Portugal he worked as a Technology Strategy Advisor Associate (February 2024–August 2025), delivering scalable backend and data-integration solutions across renewable energy, electric mobility, and billing systems—experience that directly transfers to the reliability and automation demands of modern sports analytics stacks. Earlier, he worked at MC in a business development and analytics capacity (March 2022–February 2024), building Power Platform dashboards, benchmarking solutions, automation workflows, and project delivery processes that strengthened his ability to communicate with stakeholders and deliver usable reporting tools.

He is also active in the wider football analytics ecosystem, holding the Soccermatics Pro certification (Twelve Football; issued December 2025, expiring February 2026) and building practical projects that showcase modern modelling approaches. His work includes a Football Match Intelligence dashboard (December 2025–present) featuring pitch control modelling, sprint efficiency concepts, tactical sequencing, and interactive visualisation. He also developed the Corner Threat Index (CTI) (November 2025), a deep-learning project using a Graph Neural Network approach to evaluate corner kick quality through tracking and event data, designed to produce both interpretable metrics and coach-friendly reporting outputs.

Monteiro’s technical profile is backed by multiple industry certifications across data engineering and analytics, including AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate, Azure AI Engineer Associate, Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate, and Google Cloud Digital Leader, reflecting a strong commitment to building scalable, secure, and maintainable analytics systems.
