Joe Newton (MPhil, BSc Hons) is an elite football performance analyst and leader whose career has been built around using analysis to shape training, sharpen match preparation, and support consistent first-team outcomes. With a pathway from Welsh football into Premier League environments, he is recognised for translating video and data into clear coaching actions that improve performance week to week.
Academically, Joe holds an MPhil in Performance Analysis (University of Chester) and a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science (Wrexham University), giving him a strong foundation in both research thinking and applied performance practice.
Professionally, Joe has worked at the highest level as a First Team Analyst at Brentford FC, where he was among the earliest staff appointments in Thomas Frank’s era—helping establish the analysis culture, workflows, and match-support processes that underpin modern high-performance environments. He is now Head of Performance at Tottenham Hotspur FC, leading performance support in a top-tier setting where integration across coaching, analysis, medical, and physical performance is critical.
Earlier roles include First Team Performance Analyst at The New Saints FC and Youth Performance Analyst with the Football Association of Wales (FAW), experiences that strengthened both his first-team match preparation expertise and his understanding of long-term player development.
Joe is also a key ISSPF faculty member within performance analysis education. Through ISSPF’s online courses, he brings Premier League-level insight into topics such as match preparation, opposition analysis, performance feedback, and how analysis connects directly to soccer-specific training design—helping practitioners learn how to turn information into decisions that matter.
